My oven is fusing my house! What do I do?

In all my time as an electrician carrying out small electrical jobs in Bath and West Wiltshire, only twice have I ever come across a cooker that was tripping the electrics for a reason that WASN'T a faulty oven element, so if your cooker is tripping your electrics or 'Fusing' the electrics every time you try to use it then it's almost definitely a faulty element.

HELP - Why are my electrics tripping?!

There are so many reasons that the electrics in your home could be tripping the fusebox.
When I say 'tripping', what I mean is the electrical switches or fuses at your consumer unit are not staying up. You might have heard other people saying their whole house is 'fusing'.

Here's a few common reasons why a Domestic Electrician in Corsham might be called out to carry out electrical fault finding in your home when your fusebox won't stay on.

New consumer unit on old wiring? It can get EXPENSIVE!

1. What even is a consumer unit?

Where the electricity comes in to your home you'll find your meter and after the meter you will find your consumer unit. The consumer unit is the box that distributes electricity around your home and in larger properties you may have multiple consumer units. For example, you might have a separate garage consumer unit or perhaps a separate home office consumer unit.
If you have a meter box on the wall outside your home, your consumer unit is often located close by on the inside but that's not always the case!

How a £10 Multi-Meter can save you a headache!

In an ideal world, everyone would use a a registered electrician to carry out any electrical work in your home but some people are keen to have a go themselves. A lot of call outs I get to DIY electrical work is from people who have tried to replace a light only for the light not to work, all the other lights don't work or every time you turn the light it in goes 'pop' and trips your fuse.

5 things to consider before hiring a potential electrician.

Choosing an electrician, or any tradesman for that matter can be quite a daunting task. You want someone who's going to do the work they quoted for and someone who will treat your home with respect and this ultimately all boils down to trust. You need to be able to trust your electrician so with that in mind, whether you're thinking about having some bathroom spotlights installed or you need new mains powered smoke alarms or even a fuseboard upgrade, here are 5 things you should check before hiring an electrician.

Take Care When Selecting an Electrician!!

Many Electricians in Bath and West Wiltshire are simply not interested in small electrical works. They want the choice jobs, and will drop you like a hot potato when a bigger, supposedly more lucrative, project comes in.

Others advertise as electricians having no qualifications.  They thrive on the basis that you don’t understand what they do and, as a result, overcharge for shoddy, and often dangerous, work.

I set up Watt & Co. Electrical in order to fill a gap in the domestic sector. I want to provide you with a quality service that provides you with exactly what you need from an electrician.
