Fitting a new oven

If you've ever had to buy a new oven and need it installed you've probably considered paying the company you bought the oven from to install it for you only for them to turn up and say "Your installation is not what we expected in to be" perhaps they said it's unsafe.

Type A vs Type AC RCD's

RCD protection in the form of RCD’s or RCBO’s has been commonplace in the home for well over 40 years now but as the technology we use evolves so must our safety devices. An RCD is an important piece of safety equipment which is designed to trip to protect you in the event of an electric shock.

Is your electrician actually registered for the work they carry out?

Who's ever used the electrical competent person website before?

It can be tricky choosing an electrician for your electrical work and you should always do your due diligence. The electrical competent person website is an easy place to check if your electrician is actually registered for the work they're carrying out. Things like fuseboard upgrades are notifiable work and you must use a registered electrician to carry out this work.

Fluorescent lights are being banned soon!

Yes it's true. Much like the halogen light bulbs that start being phased out a few years ago, fluorescent lights are also being phased out and by September 2023 you won't be able to buy any more fluorescent light bulbs and your electrician will be installing only new LED lights.

We should all be moving over to new LED lighting and properly disposing of the old fluorescent light bulbs. Did you know 1 fluorescent tube can contaminate up to 30,000 litres of water if disposed of incorrectly?

Has your small job electrician gone AWOL?

The answer is no!

I've been a bit slow with correspondence and not answering phone calls as swiftly as I should but there's good reason! I'm not on paternity leave after my first baby came 3 weeks early.

Fear not! Your small jobs such as fuseboard upgrades, and replacement lights are still being carried out by our other electrician, Josh. He's been holding the fort whilst I've been catching up on sleep.

Lets talk dimmers and dimming lights.

Dimmers are great, but also not great. They can create a nice ambience in your home but sometimes you'll be hearing a buzzing noise or your LED bulbs will be flickering.

As more people used a registered electrician to install them, more resources were put in to improving them.

It still takes some planning and reading instructions but these days dimmers are so much better quality and it's rare to get flickering lights or buzzing dimmers.

Are you ready?

Yes, we're local, registered electricians priding ourselves on the work we do carrying out those small electrical jobs that most electricians simply don't want. But...

Whitley and Shaw fete

With the Whitley and Shaw fate coming up so soon we've sent off our application to hopefully showcase some of our work.
We'll be bringing a battery and an inverter along with some of our outside lighting components to show you how we do outside lighting.

If you're from Corsham, Melksham or surrounding areas will we be seeing you there?

Smoke alarms in your home

So many times when viewing jobs I see no smoke alarms, or battery smoke alarms with no battery in and it amazes me that such an easy fix that could potentially save a life, hasn't been carried out!

As homeowners, there's currently no requirement for you to have any form of fire detection in your home but a lot of people will have 1, maybe 2 battery powered smoke alarms. Rarely is there maintenance carried out on these alarms.

Take Care When Selecting an Electrician!!

Many Electricians in Bath and West Wiltshire are simply not interested in small electrical works. They want the choice jobs, and will drop you like a hot potato when a bigger, supposedly more lucrative, project comes in.

Others advertise as electricians having no qualifications.  They thrive on the basis that you don’t understand what they do and, as a result, overcharge for shoddy, and often dangerous, work.

I set up Watt & Co. Electrical in order to fill a gap in the domestic sector. I want to provide you with a quality service that provides you with exactly what you need from an electrician.
