What happens during a house rewire?
By Haydon the Electrician
I've just started a full house re-wire in Bath and you won't know how a house re-wire works unless you've done them! So, how do they work?
Well, with this house re-wire in Bath, (like most rewires) we tend to start from the top and work our way down through the house doing different parts of the work. For example, I normally like to go around first and chisel all the walls our where the new sockets, switches and wiring will go. Once this dirty work is done we go back to the top of the property and start putting in your new wires. Usually this means doing the lighting circuit first as it involves loft wiring and loft lights. The upstairs lights have been re-wire it's time to move on to the upstairs sockets.
This means we now need to lift your carpets and floorboards in order to route the new cables. There is a double whammy here because as we're wiring the upstairs sockets we can also do the downstairs lights because they share the same void.
Once these are done, it's down to the downstairs sockets and things like cooker circuits etc.
Once it has all been wiring there could be some time where we're not on site due it it being plastering but once the plastering is done we can come back, connect up your new fuseboard, put all your sockets and switches on and then you're basically done!
