Wet weather in the South West can play havoc with your electrics. If you've had new outdoor sockets or outdoor garden lighting then water ingress can still cause issues with it if they've been poorly installed.
A few weeks ago I saw Handyman services offering to install outdoor sockets for Christmas lights and I've already had 1 person call me due to their electrics tripping after having an outdoor socket installed by someone who 'knows electrics'.
It's always best to use a registered electrician when it comes to your electrical installation. A registered electrician will offer a warranty on their work and understand the requirements for electrical installations.
